Garden Prep

The Samurai Gardener
More warm weather today means more garden preparation work!  I spent much of the day raking and turning the soil in our garden plot, getting it ready for planting in a few weeks.  While I did that, the girls and the animals enjoyed the sunlight, which is something we haven't seen for a few months.

Spring is Here!

Spring is finally here!  It was warm enough today to kick off our boots, let the critters out to play, start on the garden, and do some spring cleaning!

Tarp Rock Nursery

Heading to the Barn
Now that the new baby has settled in, it's time to turn our attention to the next new arrival due at the farm.

With any luck, Eair will be giving birth in April.  Though we still have some time, we decided to start working on sectioning off a new stall for the kids to stay in when they arrive.  This will give them a warm place to be, and keep them away from the bigger goats until the little ones can fend for themselves.

Though outside is snowy and muddy (typical Vermont spring), inside the barn is nice and cozy.  Working together, Christy, the girls and I measured, cut, nailed, and assembled the new stall in no time at all.  Eair and the boys even tried to help by making sure our measurements were accurate.  All that's left to do is to add a gate, a heat lamp, and some bedding, and Tarp Rock Nursery will be ready for our first kids!

Peaceful Morning

Morning in Vermont

It's been quiet around here the last few weeks, with not much happening other than daily morning chores.  Even though it's cold, mornings like this really make me appreciate the beauty of Vermont.

More Farm Hands!

Rebecca Lily
Today we welcomed a fourth daughter to the family!  Meet Rebecca Lily Davis, who, I'm sure, will be keeping us busy for the next several days.

Winter in Vermont

Sunny Day and Chilly Snow
We're still here!  There's not much happening other than the day to day chores of feeding, watering and petting.  It was sunny this morning, so the herd came out of the barn to soak up some rays for a bit.  They don't go too far into the snow, as evidenced by their tracks, but they are pretty happy with the Christmas tree that we gave them to gnaw on.

Belly Deep

Treats!
The snow was belly deep to a goat this morning.  The boys weren't quite sure what to make of it, so I opened the gate to let them go explore a bit.  Blackberry did the initial recon, but Strawberry is the one who led the charge to the other side of the  pathway, where the
boys enjoyed a nice snack of tree branches until the snow came down in their faces.  It didn't take much prodding to get them to go back into the barn.
Blackberry is not impressed.

Snow?! Where'd that come from?
There's a goat under there somewhere.
